Garden Home, Portland, Oregon: Why I love calling this neighborhood home.

If you know me, you already know I have a soft spot for Garden Home.

I'm not just a Realtor here, I'm a neighbor. I ride bikes with my boys on the Fanno Creek Trail, grab coffee with friends at our local coffee shops, hang out at Garden Home Park, and genuinely love introducing people to this little corner of southwest Portland. For me, Garden Home offers something that's surprisingly harder and harder to find. It feels peaceful without feeling isolated. It feels established without feeling stuck in the past. It manages to be both connected to and tucked away from the rush of the city.

Where is Garden Home?

Garden Home is an unincorporated community in Washington County, between Portland, Beaverton, and Tigard. That means you'll often see:

• Portland mailing addresses

• Tigard ZIP codes

• Mostly Beaverton School District schools

• Easy access to all three cities

One of my favorite things about living here is that you're never far from anything. Whether you're commuting downtown, heading to Nike or Intel, running errands in Beaverton, or meeting friends in Multnomah Village, everything feels close.

A Hidden Gem

Garden Home has a quiet charm that's difficult to describe until you've experienced it.  Tree-lined streets.  Large lots.  Mature landscaping.  Historic homes sitting comfortably beside beautifully updated mid-century homes, classic ranches, and newer builds. Many properties offer generous outdoor space, something that's becoming increasingly rare this close to Portland. There's a wonderful sense of pride of ownership and pride of community and the neighborhood itself.

The Heart of Garden Home: Fanno Creek Trail

If I had to choose one thing that defines Garden Home, it would be the Fanno Creek Trail.  This paved trail winds for miles through wetlands, forests, parks, and neighborhoods, creating one of the most beautiful recreational corridors in the Portland metro area.  You'll find people walking their dogs, jogging before work, riding bikes with their kids, or slowing down for an evening stroll. Some of my favorite memories with my boys have happened on this trail. For me, it's one of the biggest reasons Garden Home feels different from so many other neighborhoods.

Multnomah Village, one of Portland's most beloved neighborhood shopping districts, filled with locally owned boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and seasonal events.

A Rich Local History

Garden Home has roots stretching back to the late 1800s. The arrival of the Oregon Electric Railway helped establish the community in the early twentieth century, connecting residents to downtown Portland and encouraging growth throughout Washington County. Today, pieces of that history can still be felt throughout the neighborhood—in the older homes, mature trees, winding roads, and preserved green spaces that continue to make Garden Home feel unique. The community has long valued protecting its natural spaces, which helped preserve the beautiful Fanno Creek corridor that residents enjoy today.

Why I Chose Garden Home

There are plenty of wonderful neighborhoods throughout Portland.  But to me, Garden Home feels special.  I love that my boys can hop on their bikes and ride the trail.  I love our incredible neighbors.  I love knowing local business owners by name.  I love that I can be downtown in one direction, wine country in another, or hiking in Forest Park not long after leaving my driveway.  Most of all, I love the sense of community.  The annual Easter Egg Hunt and 4th of July Firetruck Parade are two of our favorite community events.  This is the kind of place where people stay.
